Julia Micklewright

Julia Micklewright, M.A Architecture is a PhD candidate at the chair of Sustainable Urbanism since 2022. She has graduated from a master in Architecture at École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Montpellier and Technische Universität München. She acquired practical experience in both architecture and urban planning firms in Germany, France and England.
Her research focus lies on the responsibility and opportunity of urban systems to power a sustainable metamorphosis with nature as a catalyst.
She looks at the dynamics happening between buildings in urban and peri-urban structures and believes in the necessity of urban renewal projects fostering climate adaptation, resilience and social integration. Some of her recurring questions are: Which urban morphologies together with nature can promote best our sustainability objectives? How can public spaces and green infrastructures promote ecological behaviors? How can private and public actors collaborate in new ways to achieve sustainability in complex systems like cities?
In her personal time, she is also involved in diverse initiatives exploring liveliness and play in public spaces, challenging traditional societal models to tackle sustainability issues and connecting people passionate about reintegrating nature in our cities.
